Not to be left out, President James Monroe also died on July 4 – in 1831 — five years after Thomas Jefferson and John Adams did.

While each shared a death day, their birthdays were April 28th, April 13th, and October 30th respectively.

On July 4, 1826, Thomas Jefferson famously shuffled off this mortal coil on the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, besting John Adams who died later in the day.

The HBO miniseries John Adams won an Emmy Award for best miniseries last night. Character actor Paul Giamatti also won for his role as Thomas Jefferson’s fellow Founding Father, friend and sometime foil.
